Introduction
Dr. Yang Zhang, Associate Professor and Master's Supervisor, is a member of the Royal Society of Arts in the UK and a principal lecturer in the Department of Art and Design at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. My research focuses on innovative design in traditional culture, museum cultural and creative design, and intelligent product design.
I graduated with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Design and Theory from Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 2015. In 2017, I completed his postdoctoral work at the same university where he has been teaching ever since. My courses include Product Design I, Fundamentals of Modeling Design, and Computer-Aided Modeling Design. In 2018, I was fully funded by the China Scholarship Council to conduct industrial design research at the University of Northampton and the Royal College of Art in the UK as a visiting scholar.
In recent years, I has conducted research on the innovative pathways of traditional culture from the perspective of integrating technology and artistic design, achieving significant practical applications and systematic theoretical results. I has published over thirty academic papers and has led one project funded by the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Science Fund, two projects funded by the fundamental research funds of central universities, and more than ten corporate design R&D projects. I has been invited to serve as a judge for the China International Science and Art Competition, a distinguished researcher at the Inner Mongolia Ethnic Culture Industry Research Institute, a cultural industry academic advisor in Hunnan District of Shenyang, and a peer reviewer for SCI journals including Science Progress.
Research
I am focused on the research field of cultural and creative product design. I have led one project funded by the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Fund, one cross-disciplinary project, and two projects funded by the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities. Additionally, I have participated in one national key R&D program project and another cross-disciplinary project, with total funding of nearly 300,000 RMB under my name. I have published nine papers in domestic and international journals, including two indexed in SCI, one in CSSCI, and six in core journals related to arts. I am the first inventor listed on three utility model patents and one design patent. Key achievements include:
Conducted in-depth research on the current state of the museum cultural and creative industry in China, proposed a framework for developing an evaluation system for cultural and creative product development, and successfully obtained approval for the 2021 Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences Research Fund project titled Research on the Development and Evaluation System for Museum Cultural and Creative Products. This marked the first time this funding was awarded to the product design major at our university.
From the interdisciplinary perspective of integrating art and engineering, I have deeply studied China's excellent traditional culture. Based on this research, I have creatively transformed and innovatively developed these elements, with findings published in the SCI-indexed journal Mechanical Sciences and the CSSCI-indexed journal Scientific Management Research. My innovative contributions have led to the application and authorization of four patents, which are being applied in the development of cultural and creative products for several museums and scenic areas.
