On the afternoon of May 11, 2025, at 2 p.m., the theater of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology Student Activity Center was aglow with brilliant lights, and the audience was filled with anticipation. A spectacular "Spring Breeze Melody · Light and Shadow into Song" film and television choral music concert was staged. Under the baton of conductor Mrs. Luo Yujia, the BUCT choir, in collaboration with the BUCT China traditional orchestra, chamber orchestra, and dance troupe, presented an impressive concert. The event was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
This concert was organized by the Department of Art and Design at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, with the strong support and assistance of the school's leadership and faculty members from the General Arts Division. On the day of the performance, the following dignitaries were present: Mrs.Li Xuemei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Art and Design; Mr.ZhuangYibing, Dean of the Department of Art and Design; Mr.WeiJie, Vice Dean of the Department of Art and Design; and all the faculty members of theGeneral Arts Division.
The concert opened with the "ChoralSections Introduction Song." The choir members, through their humorous melodies, vividly showcased the characteristics of each choralsections, demonstrating the charm of choral art. As the playful melody of "The King Asks Me to Patrol the Mountain" began, the performers, adorned with animal headdresses, transformed into a patrol team, leading the entire audience to sway to the rhythm. The renowned tenor Mr. Wang Yong, with his rich and mellow tenor voice, interpreted the "Dala Bongba," turning a fantasy adventure story into lively musical notes and constructing a magnificent musical fairytale world.
Subsequently, as the classic television drama melody "The White Snake at Qingcheng Mountain" gently sounded, the choir and dance troupe jointly presented a performance. The ethereal singing of the sopranos and altos, combined with the deep harmonies of the tenors and basses, interwove with the graceful classical dance movements of the dancers, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Chinese ink painting. In the rendition of the theme song of "A Lifelong Journey," the choir narrated the warmth of time through multi-part singing, while the intimate dialogue between the piano and strings moved the audience to tears.
Following the conclusion of the first-half repertoire, a graduate award ceremony was interspersed in the performance. Ms. Luo Yujiapresented gifts and extended congratulations to four choir members who had devoted years of service and were about to graduate.
The concert reached its climax with the "Jin Yong Wuxia Theme Medley," jointly created by the three troupes. With its majestic momentum, it recreated the atmosphere of a martial world. From special training in Cantonese pronunciation to the coordination of instrumental sections, six months of meticulous preparation finally presented this beautiful music of Chinese martial arts.. The final piece, "Saying Goodbye Is a Hard Thing," laid out the emotions of parting with the whispers of the cello and clarinet. Before the lingering notes had fully dissipated, the enthusiastic applause and calls for an encore from the audience filled the theater. The encore performance of the jazz version of "Auld Lang Syne" ignited the entire theater, turning the audience into a shimmering sea of stars, bringing this musical journey through light and shadow to a touching conclusion.
The preparation for this concert took half a year, involving more than sixty performers. Itintegrated various art forms such as choral singing, instrumental music, drama, and dance, vividly interpreting the artistic education philosophy of "cultivating beauty and moving towards beauty."
