Recently, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Museum of China, launched the “Ode to Youth—National Exhibition of College Student Innovation Achievements.” The exhibition showcases the innovative achievements and spirit of contemporary university students in promoting technological advancement, supporting national strategies, and contributing to economic and social development.
Qin Yidan, a student from our school, had her design project titled “Water Sentinels: A Water Safety Early Warning Device Designed for Smart Cities” successfully selected from numerous university submissions across the country. Her work is one of the 118 outstanding innovative achievements exhibited nationwide.
On the morning of April 29, the exhibition was grandly inaugurated at the National Museum of China. Centered around three thematic sections—Rising Stars of Technology, Youthful Dedication, and Patriotic Sentiment—the exhibition presents a systematic overview of youth-driven innovations, ranging from breakthroughs in cutting-edge technologies such as quantum computing and integrated circuits, to grassroots contributions in areas like public welfare and rural revitalization.
The featured work, “Water Sentinels: A Water Safety Early Warning Device Designed for Smart Cities”, is an advanced extension of Qin Yidan’s graduation project. The work was supervised by Professor Feng Zuguang from our school. With the core concept of “technology safeguarding urban water resilience,” the project addresses water safety issues in the context of smart cities. It integrates artistic design with engineering innovation to develop a real-time, all-weather water monitoring and early warning system, establishing a comprehensive prevention and response framework consisting of “real-time monitoring – intelligent alert – targeted rescue.” Displayed alongside pioneering works from both universities and enterprises, the project demonstrates our students’ strong capabilities in serving the development of new urbanization and vividly reflects the spirit of young scientists and designers in contributing to national strategies and embracing their generational responsibilities.
The “Ode to Youth—National Exhibition of College Student Innovation Achievements” represents the highest-level national platform for showcasing student innovation in practice. This selection marks a significant breakthrough in our university’s efforts in innovation and entrepreneurship education and adds a new achievement to the reform of aesthetic education. The exhibition will run until mid-to-late June. Faculty and students are warmly invited to visit Exhibition Halls North 1–3 at the National Museum of China to witness the passion and commitment of today’s youth in advancing science and technology.
