Folk Music Study Tour:Immerse Yourself in the Allure of Chinese Traditional Music

During the study tour, young folk music enthusiasts from the Affiliated High School visited the rehearsal hall and professional theatre of the BUCT Chinese Traditional Music Orchestra. They took full part in all aesthetic education activities of the Zhi Yi Ya Yun Aesthetic Education Practice Month and completed cross-level art research courses with immersive experience. On the open rehearsal day of the orchestra, the children closely watched the daily rehearsals of the university art troupe, while young performers provided one-on-one instrumental tutoring. At the special poetry and chorus performance titled Rhythm Forged by Years, Odes Glowing with Time, teachers and students enjoyed stage productions thatintegrated traditional Chinese musical instruments and classical poetry. The innovative online live broadcast mode of the performance also offered a brand-new reference for the information-based development of aesthetic education courses at the Affiliated High School.Drawing on this study tour, our department has provided long-term professional support for the development of the affiliated school’s school-based courses in music and chorus featuring Chinese Traditional Studies, covering curriculum framework, repertoire materials and club tutoring.

View Graduation Projects and Inspire Aesthetic Taste at the Creative Exhibition

At the next stop of the study tour, the children visited the graduation design exhibition hosted by our department. They lingered to appreciate a wide range of outstanding graduation works covering digital media, product design, cultural and creative IP development, spatial design and derivatives rooted in traditional Chinese culture.Standing before each ingenious design piece, the children observed carefully and exchanged ideas, gaining an intuitive understanding of the integrated beauty of art design, traditional culture and scientific creativity. Accompanying faculty members delivered on-site explanations, introducing fundamental design knowledge based on the exhibits and stimulating the children’s artistic imagination. The youngsters eagerly shared their original design ideas. This up-close exhibition experience broke down the barriers between professional university-level art education and aesthetic education for young students, sowing seeds of appreciation for art and passion for creation in their hearts. The highlights of this exhibition activity will be refined and adapted into after-school art course materials for the Affiliated High School, further enriching aesthetic education practices for primary and secondary school students.

Going forward, the Department of Art and Design at Beijing University of Chemical Technology will further deepen the integrated aesthetic education collaboration spanning universities, middle schools and primary schools. It will carry out study tours, student association assistance and joint curriculum development on a regular basis. Through diversified forms including traditional folk music learning and art exhibitions, the department will keep supplying high-quality university aesthetic education resources to help primary and secondary school students steadily improve their aesthetic literacy.
